Not your typical feel good movie, What the Health delivers dire warnings about personal and environmental health from the typical Western diet, primarily from animal products, but follows it with a hopeful and positive message that all of this damage can be reversed.
Eating beef, pork, poultry, fish, eggs and dairy contributes to most personal health problems, and worsens the environmental catastrophe afflicting our world. Choosing to follow a plant based diet helps to reverse and prevent personal health issues as well as helps to reduce the harm done environmentally from factory farming and the animal food industry. Most dangerous of all was the corruption and exploitation of government and charitable organizations that make recommendations on diet that counter nutritional science, and seem to be more intent on perpetuating the industry than correcting it’s harms.
The final few scenes of the movie show that there is hope, and individuals can see positive results in their health in a very short amount of time. Also included was the message that going plant based did not limit you, as professional athletes attested to achieving their greatest shape on a plant based diet.
This movie was gross and terrifying, but ultimately made me feel good about moving away from an animal product diet and producing positive changes in my body and the world.
