My Octopus Teacher (2020)

We watched My Octopus Teacher while exercising, as a way of sharing an experience and distracting from the workout, and this film delivered. While I can’t say that I ever fully connected to the filmmaker/narrator, the octopus stole the show and our hearts. The underwater footage is breathtaking and the capabilities of this tiny octopus are amazing. It can gather shells of all kinds with the suckers on it’s tentacles and build a façade so that it completely disappears, it rebuilds an arm after a shark attack, and it sacrifices it’s life to give it’s eggs a chance at life.

This film didn’t really have the typical “feel good” recipe, but it still left us feeling good, in an awestruck kind of way. It did have a love story (the narrator LOVED the octopus), a nice story, some awesome scenery and introduced us to something new, all of which are wins. Altogether, a nice watch for our workout, maybe not for a date night.

Feel Good Rating: 6.3
