Tracktown (2016)

Amanda just finished Bravey by Alexi Pappas and loved the memoir/self help/motivational book, so we decided to check out one of the movies that she and her husband Jeremy Teicher have made. This one is the story of Plum Marigold, star athlete at the a University of Oregon.

Plum, played by Alexi, is a nervous, sheltered and quirky character who nearly falls apart in her Olympic Trials heat and is ordered to take a day off. Since Plum never takes days off, she doesn’t know what to do with herself, and engages on a coming-of-age style adventure around Eugene.

The indie style film was engaging and fun, with some awkward and cringeworthy scenes, and ends, as many indie films do, without a real conclusion and let’s the viewer draw its own conclusions, which is not a great way to end a movie if you’re looking for a high feel good rating.

The movie makes a point to expose some of the assumptions and hardships that women and female athletes deal with, as well as the fine line that elite athletes navigate to compete at that level and keep their sanity.

All that said, we really enjoyed the movie, the film making and Alexi’s personality.

Feel Good Rating: 7.1
