In Good Company (2004)

Can a movie be feel good if the couple isn’t together at the end? Well In Good Company is evidence that it can, as we felt great at the end. What was the stranger pairing, Topher Grace and Dennis Quaid, or Topher Grace and Scarlett Johansson? Spoiler alert, Topher ends up alone and happy, and it leaves us wanting more, in fact our movie partner for the evening asked if there was a sequel.

I wouldn’t call this a great movie, it has elements of rom-com and coming of age stories, with a bit of an indie feel too, but it worked for us. The backstory of the company still sounds like a contemporary issue: a large, technology first company takes over a magazine publisher, nearly grinds it to death trying to implant new culture and ideas, and an old school guy and method end up saving the day. And why does the old school guy win? Because of human connection and perseverance, and some luck of course. And that is what we are looking for in a movie, something real and something magic.

Feel Good Rating: 6.9
