The kids have been getting into Pooh a lot recently so we thought we’d check out this movie for older kids about a grown up Christopher Robin. Simply put, the first half is miserable and not for kids our age. The movie does redeem itself in the second half and overall we enjoyed it.
Grown up Christopher Robin is a stressed out, workaholic grump who has all but forgotten his childhood play world. Plenty of movies follow this script, where the stuffy grown up slowly remembers how to have fun again, it was done brilliantly in Hook, and the theme works here, even if the first half was darker than necessary.
The creatures of the Hundred Acre Wood look like any kids stuffed animals look after years of being dragged around, ragged and frayed, but still lovable. Tigger and Piglet play the supporting roles, and Pooh steals the show as the tubby little cubby who never stopped believing in the goodness of Christopher Robin. Silly old bear!
